Everywhere & Nowhere

Escape Rig: 1998 Toyota Hilux + X1 Camper

MAK & Owen—better known to the rest of the wired world as Bound For Nowhere—have built more purposeful, beautiful rigs than most people have had hot meals. Their latest obsession, “Uni,” is a head turning purple Toyota Hilux brought over from Japan for it's next incarnation in Southern California. Since meeting in college this duo has roamed the backroads of the American west and beyond, with a heart full of wanderlust and an eye on the horizon, discovering pockets of home wherever the road leads.

But enough chit chat. Let's meet Uni...

Q: What additions have you made to your Super Pacific X1 Camper?

We have added a Vecel Outdoors interior, Dometic CFX5 Fridge as well as a molle panel shelf and Dometic water jug! We also have the ThermaPuff Ceiling Panel and gear organizer on the roof!

Your rig's nickname?

What was your goal with your camper build out?

"To be honest our build is still in its early stages. We have built many rigs over the years and we have come to find that if you can move slowly into the mods it helps make informed decisions based on how we actually use the camper. So far we have added some storage inside the camper as we make plans for what we want to do next!"

What's the best unexpected benefit of owning your X1?

"We have used Uni on photo shoots as a production vehicle! The X1 is perfect for giving models a place to change into wardrobe as well as carry a bunch of gear and product for our commercial work!"

Daily Driver or Dedicated Adventure Rig?

What's your favorite thing about your setup?

"I think it has to be the Molle panel shelf + Dometic water jug! I love that we can access water from the inside or outside so easily!"

Favorite road snack?

"Popcorn, dill pickles and an Arnold Palmer ;)"

"Our camper is still new to us! But we have enjoyed it in the vast expanse that is the greater Joshua Tree area!"
